About

Babar Khan is a professional engineer holding B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. as a research associate in the Embedded Systems and Applications Group within the Department of Computer Science at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. As a PhD candidate he has also worked at SAP, Germany. His doctoral research focuses on accelerating distributed storage applications using FPGA-based hardware accelerators (SmartNICs). In addition to his academic work, he is currently working as an AI engineer at a stealth-mode startup, focusing on leveraging AI chips for language model applications. Previously, Babar has also worked at Intel Germany, where he also completed his thesis on SoC (ASIC/FPGA) verification with distinction. He actively contributes to open-source software and hardware projects, and occasionally answers questions related to his work and research on Stack Overflow. Babar also has four years of experience working as a broadcast engineer (TV engineer). He is multilingual, fluent in five languages (English, Urdu, Hindi, German, and Punjabi), and has reading and comprehension skills in Persian and Arabic to some extent Outside of work, Babar is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys skiing, cycling, mountaineering, and marathon running.

🇩🇪 Babar Khan ist Ingenieur mit einem Bachelor- und Masterabschluss in Elektrotechnik. Er ist derzeit Doktorand in der Forschungsgruppe Eingebettete Systeme und Anwendungen am Fachbereich Informatik der Technischen Universität Darmstadt, Deutschland. Als Doktorand hat er außerdem bei SAP Deutschland gearbeitet. In seiner Doktorarbeit beschäftigt er sich mit der Beschleunigung verteilter Speicheranwendungen durch FPGA-basierte Hardwarebeschleuniger (SmartNICs). Neben seiner akademischen Tätigkeit arbeitet er derzeit Vollzeit als KI-Ingenieur in einem Start-up im Stealth-Modus mit Schwerpunkt auf KI-Chips. Zuvor war Babar auch bei Intel Deutschland tätig, wo er seine Abschlussarbeit zum Thema ASIC/FPGA-Verifikation mit Auszeichnung abgeschlossen hat. Er trägt aktiv zu Open-Source-Projekten im Bereich Software und Hardware bei und beantwortet Fragen zu seiner Arbeit und Forschung auf Stack Overflow. Babar verfügt außerdem über vier Jahre Berufserfahrung als Broadcast Engineer (Fernsehtechniker). Er spricht fünf Sprachen fließend. In seiner Freizeit ist Babar leidenschaftlich gerne in der Natur unterwegs – Ski, Radfahren, bergsteigen und halbMarathonläufen.
